Dry Needling Providers

The following physical therapy offices in Lake Havasu City offer dry needling as part of their treatment services. Always confirm availability and whether your insurance covers this service.

What Is Dry Needling?

  • Dry needling uses thin filiform needles (similar to acupuncture needles) inserted into myofascial trigger points — tight knots in muscle tissue that cause local and referred pain.
  • It is performed by licensed physical therapists with specialized training. In Arizona, PTs are permitted to perform dry needling as part of their scope of practice.
  • The "dry" refers to the fact that no substance is injected — the needle itself is the therapeutic tool.
  • Dry needling targets the neuromuscular system to release trigger points, reduce muscle tension, improve range of motion, and decrease pain.
  • Common conditions treated include neck pain, low back pain, shoulder impingement, tennis elbow, plantar fasciitis, IT band syndrome, and headaches.
  • Most patients feel a brief muscle twitch or cramping sensation when the needle hits a trigger point — this is called a local twitch response and is a sign of effective treatment.
  • Dry needling is different from acupuncture — acupuncture is based on traditional Chinese medicine meridian theory, while dry needling is based on Western anatomy and neuromuscular science.
  • Many patients notice improvement within 1–3 sessions, though a full course of treatment typically involves 4–8 sessions combined with therapeutic exercise.

How Physical Therapy Helps

Physical therapy is one of the most evidence-based, effective treatments for a wide range of conditions — from acute injuries to chronic pain to neurological conditions. Here is what the research and clinical experience consistently show:

Pain Relief Without Medication

Physical therapy addresses the root cause of pain through targeted exercises, manual therapy, and movement re-education — reducing or eliminating the need for pain medications.

Post-Surgical Recovery

PT is a critical component of recovery after joint replacements, spinal surgeries, and orthopedic procedures. It restores strength, range of motion, and function.

Fall Prevention for Older Adults

Balance training and strength exercises significantly reduce fall risk — one of the leading causes of injury in adults over 65. PT can improve stability and confidence.

Chronic Condition Management

Conditions like arthritis, fibromyalgia, and chronic back pain respond well to physical therapy. Regular PT can reduce flare-ups and improve daily function.

Sports & Activity Injury Recovery

From rotator cuff tears to ACL injuries, PT helps athletes and active individuals return to the activities they love safely and with reduced re-injury risk.

Neurological Rehabilitation

PT plays a vital role in recovery from strokes, Parkinson's disease, multiple sclerosis, and traumatic brain injuries — improving mobility, coordination, and independence.

Avoiding Surgery

In many cases, physical therapy can resolve conditions that might otherwise require surgery — including meniscus tears, spinal stenosis, and rotator cuff injuries.

Improved Posture & Ergonomics

PT addresses postural imbalances and teaches proper body mechanics, reducing workplace and daily-life strain on the spine and joints.

Medicare Coverage: Medicare Part B covers physical therapy services when medically necessary and ordered by a physician. There is no annual dollar cap on medically necessary PT services. Always verify your specific coverage with your plan.

How Massage Therapy Helps

Massage therapy has a growing body of clinical evidence supporting its benefits for pain, stress, circulation, and overall wellness. It works best as part of a broader wellness approach — often alongside physical therapy, exercise, and healthy lifestyle habits.

Muscle Tension & Pain Relief

Therapeutic massage releases tight muscles, reduces trigger points, and improves circulation to painful areas — providing both immediate and lasting relief.

Stress & Anxiety Reduction

Massage activates the parasympathetic nervous system, lowering cortisol levels and promoting relaxation. Regular massage has been shown to reduce anxiety and improve mood.

Improved Circulation

Massage stimulates blood flow, which delivers oxygen and nutrients to muscles and tissues while helping remove metabolic waste products.

Better Sleep Quality

The relaxation response triggered by massage improves sleep onset and quality — particularly beneficial for those with insomnia or sleep disruption from pain.

Headache & Migraine Relief

Massage of the neck, shoulders, and scalp can reduce the frequency and intensity of tension headaches and migraines by releasing muscle tension and improving circulation.

Lymphatic Support & Immune Function

Lymphatic drainage massage supports the immune system by stimulating lymph flow, reducing swelling, and helping the body clear toxins and waste.

Injury Recovery & Scar Tissue

Massage helps break down scar tissue, improve flexibility in injured areas, and speed recovery from soft tissue injuries when used alongside other treatments.

Complement to Physical Therapy

Massage and PT work well together — massage relaxes and prepares muscles for therapeutic exercise, while PT addresses underlying structural and movement issues.

Insurance Note: Most health insurance plans do not cover massage therapy unless it is prescribed by a physician for a specific medical condition. Some flexible spending accounts (FSA) and health savings accounts (HSA) may cover therapeutic massage with a physician's prescription. Always verify with your insurer.
